1. Draw the journey on the overview
Identify your intended start, destination and an alternative. Check that all three fit within the printed and digital coverage. Put dates and source names on the paper copy so an old printout is not mistaken for a current closure report.
The National Park Service encourages carrying appropriate navigation supplies and leaving an itinerary with a trusted person. Adapt that practice to local conditions, your abilities and the actual journey.
2. Pair the map with a private card
Use the blank worksheet to record a meeting location, a fallback and who expects a check-in. Write personal details only on the copy you keep privately. Do not post a home address, destination or route to a public board as part of this task.
The current Prepper prepared download is the Central Muskoka pilot, roughly 42 × 41 kilometres and 4.41 MB. It is not the full district. Other areas require a compatible imported map until a prepared pack exists.
3. Open the kit without internet
Download while connected, then reopen the map in its intended reader without Wi-Fi or mobile data. Keep a communication alternative available while rehearsing. Check coverage at the edges, readable roads and labels, and where the file lives.
Saved coordinates and written route notes are references. They do not provide automatic road routing, live closures or turn-by-turn instructions. GPS readings also require sensible checks against the visible map and conditions.
